Alumni Football Game
Andrews 34 : 42 Murphy
12:00 pm Saturday, Dec 08, 2012
Andrews High School
50 High School Drive, Andrews, NC 28901
It was a warm December Saturday with temperatures in the mid 50's when the Cats and the Bulldogs met for one last showdown. This Alumni Game brought players from both sides of the Valley River ranging in ages from 18 to late 40's.  The fans lined up to the parking lot to get a look at some of the past all-time great players from Andrews High School and Murphy High School.  Tensions were high after Murphy won the coin toss and eleceted to recieve the ball.  Andrews came out with a short, high kick that was knocked loose by Matthew Esposito and recovered by the Cats!!  It took only a few plays for both teams to shake off the rust and get back in the groove.  Both teams offense and defense seemed ready for a battle, and that is what they gave the over 1000+ fans cheering in the stands.  This game was full of explosive hits and big Touchdowns.  The lead changed hands 4 times during this electric game and with less than 1 minute left in the game was tied 34-34.  Andrews tied the game after a fumble recovery in the redzone.  With another high and short kick, everyone was sure that overtime was coming.  The ball was touched, kicked, and eventually picked up by Ian "to fast" Reese who returned it over 50 yards for a Bulldog Touchdown with only 22 seconds left in the game.  The 2 point conversion was good.  Andrews never gave up and came out with a bomb pass only to be intercepted and the game was over.  We would like to extend a special thanks to all the military men that played in this game and I know that everyone was excited to have all the players back on the field.  Andrews Alumni Awards: Oldest Player Award- Pedro Wilson, Special Teams-Jordan Collins, Defensive Player-Tyler Edwards, Offensive Player-Steve Coleman, and MVP-James Ellis.  Murphy Alumni Awards: Oldest Player-Patrick Canizio Jr, Special Teams-Brian Laney, Defensive Player-Lou Smith, Offensive Player-Ian Reese, MVP- Tyler White
